The undoubted legend that is
Lulu is to tour the UK for the first time since 2019 with her most intimate show to date. Lulu, who released her first single nearly 60 years ago, will be presenting her For The Record show next year, which includes a date at the
Lichfield Garrick theatre on 24th May 2023. From the release of her debut single Shout in 1964 to the James Bond theme To Sir With Love; Lulu is a bona fide British music legend. For The Record will combine remarkable stories and stunning video clips with a sample of her classic songs. The show will be a chance to get to know the diminutive Scottish star, who has entertained legions of fans across 60 glorious years. Lulu said: "
I'm excited to be sharing my story and my music with my first tour in four years. It's been an incredible story and I'm looking forward to telling that in For The Record. This is a completely different show to anything I've ever done before."
The show will feature stories from Lulu's remarkable career – from being friends with The Beatles to marrying a Bee Gee, from winning the Eurovision Song Contest to enjoying a colossal hit with Shout, from her relationship with David Bowie to the wonder of Relight My Fire, her number one hit with Take That. There will be exclusive photography and video footage as well as incredible songs from a pop icon, whose star continues to burn bright. Lulu, who was born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, in Glasgow, began her musical career at the age of 14 when she joined local group The Gleneagles. Together with her band, The Luvvers, she released their first single Shout in 1964, reaching number 7 in the UK charts. Not content with just singing, she starred in her first movie in 1967, playing the part of cheeky Barbara Pegg in To Sir With Love, also singing the theme tune. That was followed by three major hit singles including The Boat That I Row, as well as her first BBC Television series called
Three of a Kind.
Lulu went on to jointly win the Eurovision Song Contest with Boom Bang-A-Bang, before marking a five-year absence from the UK charts in 1974 with The Man Who Sold The World, written and produced by David Bowie. Further TV series continued, as well as acting roles such as Adelaide in the award-winning National Theatre production of
Guys and Dolls. In 1993 Lulu teamed up with Take That for Relight My Fire, giving her her first UK No.1 single. She was then awarded the OBE in 2000 for her contribution to the entertainment industry and, in 2011, took part in the BBC series
Strictly Come Dancing.
Lulu – For The Record will be at the Lichfield Garrick on Wednesday 24th May 2023. Tickets can be booked via the box office on 01543 412121 or on the Garrick website: www.lichfieldgarrick.com/whats-on/music/lulu-for-the-record/2992
