BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year nominee
Lucy Ward brings her new band to the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath on October 2.
The singer/ songwriter from Derby won the BBC Folk Horizon Award (Best Newcomer) in 2012 and was on the shortlist for 2014's Folk Singer of the Year prize, the youngest artist to be nominated.
She plays guitar, ukulele and concertina but considers her voice to be her first instrument.
After her success at the 2012 BBC Folk Awards Lucy played to a capacity audience on her Cambridge Folk Festival debut and graced the Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury in 2013.
Her 2011 debut album,
Adelphi Has To Fly, was critically acclaimed, with MOJO Magazine claiming she was 'Britfolk's most vibrant and forthright new young talent'.
Lucy's second album,
Single Flame, was released in August 2013 and was placed second in the MOJO Folk Album of the Year Chart.
The Lucy Ward Band was formed to recreate the album's fuller sound on stage. At the Hare & Hounds Lucy will be joined by Belinda O'Hooley (formerly part of Rachel Unthank and The Winterset) and Heidi Tidow on piano, accordion, harmonium and guitar, percussionist Steve MacLachlan (formerly of The Willows), Joy Gravestock on fiddle and Sam Pegg on bass.
After five years as a solo artist this is the first time Lucy has toured with a band. She says having musicians around her helps bring her songs alive on stage.
''
It's all the stuff I can hear when I write a song, but don't have enough arms to play,'' she grins.
Support at the Hare & Hounds comes from
Chris Cleverley, a Birmingham singer who performs both traditional and original material.
