Even someone as respectable as a Lord cannot resist the temptation of a cupcake. I mean, come on, with all those sparkly bits and colourful icing, what do you expect? Who can just sit there stoically when there is cake to be eaten?
Our Lord Mayor, Alderman Fiona Woolf, likes them so much that she has presented Londoners with a challenge. On the 11th July she would like you to enter the City Cupcake Competition. The contest is part of City's Giving Day, The Lord Mayor's Appeal to help support community-based charities. The fundraiser will go towards Beating Bowl Cancer, Princess Alice Hospice, Raleigh International, and Working Chance.
The event will take place at Guildhall Yard between 10.30am - 5pm. Entry to the contest is £2, and awards will be given to the Best Tasting Cupcake, Best Looking Cupcake, and the Lord Mayor's Favourite. You can submit your treats up until 1.30pm, and the judging will begin at 2.30pm. Aside from the Lord Mayor herself, judges will include Frances Quinn, the winner Great British Bake Off 2013, the creative chef at Cocomaya, Thom Joseph, and TV chef, Peter Sidwell. At 3pm you can have Tea With The Lord Mayor, during which, the winners will be announced and crowned Champion City Baker.
For those not entering the competition, admission is free, and there are other fun activities to enjoy, such as hourly raffles, an honesty box bake sale, a masterclass by Thom Joseph, and food stalls, including Bea's of Bloomsbury.
