The grown up way to enjoy the Zoo
Unfortunately, the 2012 session of this spectacular summer event has now closed, but it's never too early to start planning the fun for next summer and one of the must-do activities is certainly London Zoo Lates. We all love the Zoo, but gone are the times when we needed the excuse of children or younger siblings to enjoy it, with the return of the sophisticated evening event, exclusively for adults, to enjoy the wonders of the wilderness.
Every Friday night in June and July from 6-10pm, London Zoo opens its doors after hours for a night out with a difference. The evenings are a child-free time, to be young and not only enjoy the sights of amazing animals but a range of other activities too. Improvised comedy in the aquarium, Twisted Cabaret in the amphitheatre, and the Silent Disco are among many of the enjoyments to pass the evening. You can even sample the tastes and aromas of the street food festival all to the backing track of London's finest acoustic musicians, coming together to create the perfect carnival atmosphere.
We're never too old either to enjoy the simple pleasures of face-painting, animal masks, silly furry hats and animal costumes available at the Transformation Station.
Of course, the highlight of the zoo experience is the animals. With over 750 different species to discover and a range of animal talks, feeds and demonstrations, you can find out what they really get up to after dark. Although with some animals taking early bed times, the trick to this evening is to plan the animal viewings and other activities so as you don't miss a beat, or even a beast.
