The is a green oasis in the heart of west London and is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

There are lots of different birds to see, both residents (with handy interpretation panels telling you what they are) and visitors. On my visit, I loved trying to spot herons in the reed beds, chuckling at the amazing whistling duck and seeing a water vole (listen out for the distinctive plop when it enters the water). The latest arrivals are four otters, which are fed at 11am and 2pm every day, a sight not to be missed.

There are wild flower meadows to admire, evening bat walks, a café, and pond dipping and creepy crawly hunting for the kids, and all the hides and different areas are connected by flat paths, making them accessible to pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Guided tours take place every day at 11.30am and 2.30pm. These last for about 90 minutes.

The centre is nestled between Barnes and the River Thames and is easily accessible from Barnes train station, Hammersmith (by bus) or by foot from Putney.

It's free to get in if you are a member of the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust; if not, it is £9.99 for adults (concessions are £7.45) and £5.55 for children.
