It really is one of the most German things ever. Oktoberfest. It's amazing how one word can bring images of beer and busty women to the front of the mind. Now, however, you don't have to travel all of the way to Germany to experience this, you can just pop down to London.
Whilst it is in London, the aim is to make you feel like you are in Munich. This traditional celebration of the bringing in of the harvest gathers everyone together through the medium of a cold glass of beer. The event is held inside a tent in Kennington Park in Lambeth, so the miserable weather won't affect your experience. The staff are all dressed in traditional Dirndl and Lederhosen, whilst serving you beer that has been specially created for the festival and a Bavarian sausage platter to truly give you a taste of Germany. You will be doing incredibly well if you don't get up and sing along with the German folk bands that are performing. Whilst you probably won't know the words, you will soon catch up and be dancing and singing away. Especially if you have had a few beers.
You have the chance to buy tickets at a cost of £34 for Thursday or Friday, £39 for Saturday and £26 for the Sunday. So, if you fancy being temporarily German (as long as you are more fun than Miss Merkel!), then take a trip to Kennington Park and you will be made most welcome.
