Sometimes, a night out in a club, dancing till your limbs come loose having shaken themselves from your body, just doesn't cut it.
You might feel the need for a different kind of stimulation; one that doesn't involve 150 decibels rattling around your cochlea like a pneumatic drill in a drainpipe.
If so,
Lates could be just the ticket.
Lates cleverly combines the capital's vibrant nightlife with a host of fun and fascinating cultural events.
This ongoing initiative sees popular arts venues across London putting on special late night shows and exhibitions – most likely with a drink or two involved.
From movie screenings to art workshops, there should be something to satisfy everyone, and a great evening out is pretty much guaranteed.
So instead of simply tottering off to the boozer after work, how about checking out one of the participating museums or galleries for a slightly different kind of night out.
All kinds of places are getting involved, from major institutions such as the British Library and Tate Modern, to smaller but equally cool venues such as the Hayward Gallery and the Whitechapel Gallery.
The National Gallery, for example, is running
Friday Lates , extending its end-of-the-week opening hours till 9pm. Enjoy a guided tour, an
artist's eye talk, a special lecture from a well-known face, a
talk and draw event, and then take in some live music with a drink at the bar.
The V&A is getting involved, with late night events taking place on
the final Friday of every month . In March they're turning the place into what they're calling a "theatrical wonderland", celebrating the world of theatre. There'll be a chance to watch a play, dress up in different costumes and even take part in a show!
The Barbican is another venue taking part in Lates. They have an assortment of things going on, including
live performances and events with guest DJs .
They also have a dedicated Lates Lounge where you can enjoy a drink with food. There are confirmed
Lates events at the Barbican on 23rd April, 13th May, 25th June, and 23rd July (2011).
