The London Boat Show is back for another year of water-based fun, providing visitors with more than a week of entertainment at the ExCel Exhibition Centre in east London, right next to the Thames.

The show isn't simply a display of the latest luxury boats and super-yachts - it's much more than that.

The centrepiece of the London Boat Show this year is the Watersports Action Pool, a 70-metre long and 24-metre wide pool filled with more than a million litres of water.

So what's all the water for? Well, for starters, visitors to the show can try various activities in the pool, including stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), wakeboarding, windsurfing, dinghy sailing, canoeing and kayaking.

If you're not the active type, you're invited to simply relax and enjoy entertaining demos by a number of watersports experts.
On Wednesday 11th January the Action Pool will play host to a display by electric remote control power boats pushing through the water at breathtaking speeds.

The London Boat Show this year features more than 1000 boats of all shapes and sizes, all of which you can jump aboard and explore.

There'll also be 500 exhibitors in attendance happy to give advice to anyone thinking of splashing out on a vessel or to those who've recently done so and are looking for inspiration on how best to kit it out.

If you're not a Russian oligarch, a more modestly priced boat-based holiday may be a more realistic proposition, about which many exhibitors will be happy to provide information.

History buffs should look out for the Classic Boat Attraction, an area where visitors can, for example, find out all there is to know about HMS Victory, the famous 18th century warship which played an integral part in the Battle of Trafalgar.

If you'd like to brush up on your nautical knowledge, head for The Knowledge Box where experts will be offering up their wisdom about sailing the high seas. Beginners and skilled sailors both welcome.

Power boats, sailing boats, luxury boats - they'll all be there at the London Boat Show.

Tickets for the event cost 16 for adults. Children can enter for free (up to two under 15-year-olds with a paying adult).
