A haven for walkers, off road cyclists, fishermen and dog walkers, Llys y Fran Country Park in Pembrokeshire, South Wales covers 350 acres of woodland and grassland, and includes a 212 acre reservoir, which supplies most of the county's drinking water. Whatever your preferred leisure pursuit, it is worth spending a whole day here to make the most of what's on offer.

For a mere £1.50 parking fee a day, visitors can walk the 7.5 miles around the reservoir, stopping for a picnic along the way, or pay a small fee to hire a mountain bike and get round a little bit quicker. There are some challenging sections of the circular route for cyclists, but you can always get off and walk if the going gets too tough.

If you prefer fishing, you're in for a treat, as Llys y Fran reservoir is the largest game fishery in south west Wales, and is well stocked with rainbow and brown trout. Fly and bait fishing is permitted, at a cost of £36 a full day (for 12 fish maximum) and £14 for an afternoon (four fish). You can either fish from the bank or from a boat. A rowing boat can be hired for £9.50 for the day, or if you prefer a motor boat, these cost £11.50 per afternoon hire. Disabled angling facilities are also available.

You can also take your own canoe, dinghy or sailboard out on to the water for about £9 a day.

Exhausted from a long day's walking, you can head for the visitor centre, where there is a small shop and a licensed restaurant, serving fish and chips for £6.95, cauliflower cheese, baked potatoes and other savoury dishes, along with cakes and cream teas.

Located about 10 miles north east of the market town of Haverfordwest, Llys y Fran Country Park is well signposted with brown 'places of interest' signs, off the main A40 road, between Haverfordwest and Narberth. Opening times are 8am until dusk, and in the winter 9am until 5pm.
