Tucked away near a parade of shops on Goldsmith Row between Hackney Road and Broadway Market, Little Georgia is a hidden gem worth visiting. It serves authentic Georgian food such a borscht, mezzes and bellinis and the specials menu changes regularly.
Vintage telephones form part of the quirky decoration
My boyfriend and I enjoyed a Saturday evening meal here recently - luckily we reserved a table in advance because it soon started to fill up after 7.30pm. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service attentive. The fixtures and fittings are beautifully appointed with tongue and groove wood walls decorated with vintage telephone sets. There are lots of quirky little touches such as light fittings made from upturned French horns.
We ordered a mixed mezze to share for starters which had six different salad dishes, including a kind of Russian style salad, stuffed sweet red peppers and a divine aubergine dish that had a smoky, hard to place flavour. We were given the choice of cheese or bean bread and we opted for cheese. We were presented with a hot, round, flat bread stuffed with a kind of mild cream cheese. It made for a delicious complement to the mezze salads.
