Thai street food and Huddersfield aren't two terms I would normally associate with one another but when I accidentally stumbled upon Little Chilli on Viaduct Street recently, I had to reassess my knowledge of South-east Asian food availability in Huddersfield.

When I first walked in to Little Chilli the atmosphere was buzzing with activity, which surprised me considering it was a Tuesday. It was a very good sign though, and meant that I was excited about the meal to come.





The decor was bright and modern, with long communal wooden tables in the centre of the restaurant, separate tables around the sides if you wanted your privacy, and plenty of stimulating colour. Service was quick, friendly and no-nonsense, which suited the place perfectly.



We were seated at a private table and, after perusing the menu for a few minutes, I settled on a Thai milk tea and the mixed dim sum to start. For mains we had the green curry and massaman curry.





Having been to Thailand a couple of times and having a serious love of Thai cuisine, I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the food. Sure, pork dumplings aren't authentically Thai but they were very tasty. The curries had the right balance of flavour, depth and richness I was looking for. They lacked a few of the "extras" likes the vegetables you might find in an authentic Thai curry, but all in all, it was a very satisfying mid-week dinner and at a very accessible price. Would I go back? Yes, I'm very much looking forward to it.
