Light up a Life – John Taylor Hospice

John Taylor Hospice's annual remembrance event Light up a Life is going virtual this December.

The Birmingham charity's popular annual event sees local communities honouring the lives of special people by dedicating a light on a Christmas tree and taking part in a celebration event. And to ensure families and friends are still able to pay tribute to loved ones in a memorable way this festive season, hospice teams have created a sparkling virtual Tree of Lights and will live stream a short ceremony on Friday 4 December at 7pm.



Charlie Pette, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at John Taylor Hospice, explained: "Each glowing light on our virtual tree represents the life and memories of special people who are sadly no longer with us. Light up a Life is a meaningful way to celebrate those we hold dear and each dedication also helps to light up the lives of others - ensuring expert hospice care is free for everyone whoever and wherever they are."

People can leave a personal message on the virtual Tree of Lights to shine brightly in memory of a special person they love and miss. It's also possible to upload a favourite family photo and share a link to the tree with family and friends. After making a dedication, each person will receive a gift pack in the post with an invitation to the virtual Light up a Life event which this year will be hosted on YouTube at 7pm on Friday 4 December. The ceremony will feature readings by hospice staff and supporters, alongside moving musical performances.

Charlie added: "As we reflect on what has been a very difficult year, coming together to support each other seems more important now than ever. We hope Light up a Life can give people comfort and please know that with your kind donation you'll be giving the gift of care to more families this Christmas."
