The show goes on despite theatre temporarily closed
The building may be closed, but in true showbiz style, the entertainment doesn't stop there. The Lichfield Garrick theatre in Staffordshire has been forced to close for the time being as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. And, while that has resulted in a number of shows being cancelled, the Garrick is working hard during its temporary shutdown to offer a number of social media activities for people to engage with a bid to keep them busy and entertained. The theatre is looking to maintain creative content and is working on video equivalents of activities that normally take place in the building. This is aimed at keeping community spirit high and also help the Lichfield Garrick to stay connected with friends while they are unable to do so in person.

Associate Director Jonny McClean presents the latest episode of the Lichfield Garrick Film Club

For those theatre-goers who enjoyed visiting the Garrick Cinema, movie-lovers can instead now get involved with the Film Club. This will involve theatre staff listening to people's film recommendations and then having a chat about them on social media afterwards, all from the comfort of their own sofas. Anyone wanting to get involved, and recommend next week's film, is urged to submit their choice on the next Film Club Facebook post, with the link provided at the bottom of the page. In addition to the Film Club, Storytime at the Garrick will also continue on a weekly basis, but instead of taking place in the theatre's Green Room, this will now happen virtually. The Garrick's Associate Director, Jonny McClean, will be sharing a story on the theatre's Facebook and YouTube sites along with a craft activity, so children can get creative from their living rooms. They are asked to post their pictures to the Facebook wall and see what other people have created too!

The theatre is closed but the show goes on

Furthermore, for people who enjoy a podcast or prefer sitting and listening to an audiobook, the Garrick will be uploading interview-based podcasts that will look at different community activities each week and talk a little bit about what they involve. People are urged to keep their eyes focused on social media for the first episode 'Spotlight On Community Musical' coming soon. To access all the online activity available, supporters are asked to follow the theatre on all its social media (see links below) and ensure that they are subscribed to the Lichfield Garrick YouTube channel and click the notification bell so they are notified of all content as it goes live! They are also encouraged to get involved by leaving comments, asking questions and sharing them on social media so others can join in the fun too!
