From Gareth Gates to Graham Greene As New Season Unveiled
The stars will be out in force when the Lichfield Garrick theatre in Staffordshire rolls out its newly announced summer season of shows. The famous faces will be headed by singer Gareth Gates and comedians Jasper Carrott and Joe Pasquale, but another major highlight of the Garrick's jam-packed summer season will be the theatre's 'dreamy' brand new community musical.

Gareth Gates
Singer Gareth Gates is one of the stars of the new season

The Dreaming, which follows the success of the Lichfield Garrick's first ever community musical, The Hired Man, last year, is a musical version of A Midsummer Night's Dream composed by Howard Goodall. As with The Hired Man, The Dreaming will again be directed by the theatre's Artistic Director Tim Ford. With a cast of 70 performers and crew already confirmed from across Lichfield and the surrounding districts, The Dreaming promises to be the biggest in-house production which the Garrick has delivered to date.

Our Man In Havana
Our Man In Havana heads an impressive list of drama

Lichfield Garrick welcomes back Oddsocks Theatre Company with their Mods and Rockers version of Romeo and Juliet, while drama lovers can also take a step back in time to 1958 as Jim Wormold enters a dirty world of espionage and double agents in Graham Greene's Our Man in Havana. Later in the season there will be the prospect of thrills galore as the classic Wait Until Dark sends chills over the main auditorium. Further drama also follows as part of the Garrick's Introducing series which grows from strength to strength with Between The Two, Stuff, and Kenneth Williams: Cult Figure amongst the highlights. Murder is also on the cards as the theatre's main stage is transformed into Bloodford Village during the Lichfield Food Festival in a new interactive murder mystery show.

Jasper Carrott
Plenty of laughs in store from top comedian Jasper Carrott

For music lovers, there is a very special unplugged show with Gareth Gates and a variety of tributes including Rod Stewart, Elvis and George Michael. The theatre's classical concert series also continues with Haydn & Mozart Keyboard Sonatas, while further top-notch entertainment is on offer with Beyond The Barricade and a concert by The Opera Boys. If comedy is your thing, there are laughs galore with Jasper Carrott, Joe Pasquale and Paul Zerdin, whilst the theatre's monthly comedy night, Comedy 42, continues to deliver the next big thing in comedy. Family highlights include Cbeebies' Mister Maker and The Scarecrows' Wedding while the theatre also welcomes the West End productions of Horrible Histories and The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

Mister Maker and The Shapes

Later in the season sees the return of the Garrick Rep Company with Letters to Emma, a new play based on the life of Anna Seward, again directed by Tim Ford. The show will be made in Lichfield and has been supported by Arts Council England. The new summer season brochure is available in person from the Garrick Box Office in Castle Dyke, Lichfield, and online. To book tickets either call the Box Office on 01543 412121 or visit online.

Your Comment
Hi Tony,
Very exciting news about the new Garrick Season. It's great that Letters to Emma has been mentioned as Made in Lichfield, directed by Tim Ford. It would be brilliant if you could also credit local playwright Carolyn Scott-Jeffs as the writer of this piece. She's lived in Lichfield for over 20 years and is also responsible for Made in Lichfield project Fanny A New MusicHall which will be at the Garrick 29th & 30th June!
Thank you.
