A packed programme of Autumn/Winter entertainment awaits
A host of famous faces will be appearing alongside locally produced work during the forthcoming new season at the Lichfield Garrick theatre in Staffordshire. There promises to be something for everyone during the Garrick's new Autumn/Winter season, which begins in September 2017, with a varied collection of entertainment ranging from drama, family shows and variety to comedy and music.
Expect lots of fun with Crimes on the Christmas Express
On top of the theatre's seasonal pantomime, Aladdin, which stars Cat Sandion of CBeebies fame, there will be two further festive themed shows running in the Garrick's studio theatre. And for younger and family audiences, Home for Christmas promises to be one not to miss, described as a wonderful, fun-filled adventure which follows a mother's quest to make it home in time for Christmas. After the success of last year's adult themed 'anti' panto, New Old Friends Theatre Company returns with a new show entitled Crimes on the Christmas Express. The show is billed as an alternative Christmas comedy inspired by Agatha Christie, 39 Steps and Jason Bourne all rolled into one.
Vamos Theatre's Finding Joy touches on the subject of dementia
All three festive productions come under the banner of Made in Lichfield and are co-produced by the Lichfield Garrick theatre. The Made in Lichfield theme continues with Letters To Emma, a new play based on the life of Anna Seward. Written by local author Carolyn Scott Jeffs and directed by the theatre's Artistic Director, Tim Ford, this production is described as an intriguing modern day ghost story. Also for drama lovers, the national tour of Frederick Knott's Wait Until Dark arrives in Lichfield this October with its all-star cast. There will be thrills galore in Blackeyed Theatre's The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde while, for those looking for something slightly different, Vamos Theatre returns with the award winning Finding Joy, a humorous and humane show that approaches the subject of dementia.
A host of well-loved names will be appearing at the Lichfield Garrick over the forthcoming season from 'Silver Screen' with Robert Powell and Liza Goddard to 'War Stories' with Peter Snow and Ann MacMillan. America's Got Talent winner Paul Zerdin will be bringing his famous puppets while Jai McDowall and Michael Courtney present the very best of the West End in Mad About The Musicals. Later in the season poet Pam Ayres will be making a welcome appearance at the theatre. Music treats include Jimmy Osmond, The Syd Lawrence Orchestra and two classical concerts: Vivaldi by CandleLight and the internationally acclaimed Richter Ensemble performing Beethoven Quartets. After their sell-out performance in March, local Lichfield acoustic duo Chris Buckle and Dan Anketell return with a new set of unique covers in Music Through the Decades.
Crissy Rock stars in comedy Dirty Dusting
Irish comedian Ed Byrne heads up the comedy with Spoiler Alert; a brand new show from the 'master of observational comedy', while Comedy 42 introduces some of the finest up and coming comedians on the circuit including Tony Law, Glenn Wool and Dane Baptiste. There also promises to be laughs galore in Dirty Dusting starring Benidorm's Crissy Rock, as three cleaning ladies set up a telephone sex line that really cleans up. Karen Foster, Executive Director of the Lichfield Garrick, said of the new season: "As a small, independent charity which aims to provide the best entertainment for the city of Lichfield and beyond, our new season celebrates our city and its talents, past and present, brings our community together with three joyful productions during December and welcomes everyone, young and old, into the wonderful world of theatre. There really is something for everyone."
