Get on your bikes for new series of free cycle rides
Regular and occasional cyclists alike are being urged to sign up for a monthly series of Sunday cycle rides which are returning in Staffordshire in 2019. This year's Cycle Rides for All programme, which is entirely free to take part in, is to be launched on Sunday 24 March with a five-mile taster ride setting off from Beacon Park in the centre of Lichfield. This event signals the start of a series of seven free monthly cycle rides that will take place towards the end of each month, running from March through to September. Each month the group will cycle to a new destination, including the area around Lichfield and Burntwood, as well as rides to Fisherwick Lakes, Chasewater, Hints, the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, and Fradley Junction and back again.

The rides are variously graded depending on the cyclists' ability, from level 1, which is suitable for beginners, to level 4 rides which are for more experienced cyclists. Jamie Dodd, Health & Wellbeing Activator for Lichfield District Council, said: "Cycling is a great way to get some exercise and to visit some fantastic places across the district. I hope plenty of people come along to our first ride of the season round Lichfield. All the bikes get a quick safety check by Freedom Cycles before setting off, to make sure they are roadworthy. We also recommend wearing safety helmets and that you bring a packed lunch and drink, although there is a café stop on most rides."

Anyone who wants to join the Lichfield taster ride should turn up with their bikes at Beacon Park in Lichfield on Sunday 24 March at 11am. This ride is graded level 1, which means it is suitable for all including beginners. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
