Lichfield's free music festival is to return to the historic Staffordshire city in July with some 30 live performers lined up over the course of three exciting, pulsating days. The will take place in the city's delightful Beacon Park from Friday 13th July to Sunday 15th July. Now in its 17th year, the Fuse Festival is a free community music and arts festival which is staged annually by the charity Lichfield Arts. However, in order to ensure that this year's event goes ahead, organisers are launching a crowd-funding appeal called #FundFuse18, which is aimed at filling the financial gap resulting from a big reduction in its normal grant funding.

The 2018 plans to continue the success and popularity of its previous events with 30 live musical acts playing over the course of the weekend spread over two stages. Those bands lined up to perform include Tankus The Henge, Scott Doonican, Skaciety, The Undercover Hippy and White Eskimo. The weekend entertainment will also involve audience participatory activities such as beatboxing, storytelling, musical instrument making, drumming workshops, art and crafting, poetry, sporting challenges, close-up magic and dance, together with a wide selection of food traders, a vibrant festival market and a well-stocked bar.

The co-directors of Fuse, husband and wife team Phil and Pam Beale, have been working hard on raising funds to pay for the festival, but have found the usual grants particularly hard to source this year. Pam said: "The best thing about Fuse is that it's free - and we do this to ensure there are no barriers to entry. This means we receive no ticket revenue to help pay for it, and we don't receive funding from the local councils. So grants are a really important source of income for us - and that's the problem, because this year our grant income has shrunk considerably." Phil added: "Trustees in Lichfield Arts, the charity that puts on Fuse, considered various options, including cancelling Fuse this year. They decided to still go ahead with Fuse, with instructions for us to reduce costs where we could but look at other avenues for raising money to limit the financial burden on the charity. So, we've launched a Crowdfunder campaign, with a target of £10,000, which will allow us to deliver all we've now got planned for Fuse."

The #FundFuse18 campaign runs until Saturday 16th June, and can be viewed at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/lichfieldfuse. The full festival line-up and further details about the event can be found by visiting www.fuselichfield.org.uk
