Formerly a branch of Borough Wines (in fact technically I think it still is),
L'Entrepot operates as a shop, wine bar and restaurant too. Now, appearances can be deceptive, and in the case of - very deceptive.
Located as it is next-door-but-one from a train station, and right next door to a supermarket, it doesn't at first glance look anything like you are hoping for. Which is why, once you enter you realise just how wrong you can be. The first thing you notice as you pass through the door are the rows of bottles, and the tapped barrels where you can buy by the glass.
On the subject of wines, this is what they do best - naturally, due to the fact that the
origin of everything they do started out in Borough Market. The major wine producing countries are all featured, especially Spanish and French, along with some New World types - while the food is paired with wines on request by the knowledgeable and helpful staff.
One of the best things about this is you can find a wine you like, enjoy a glass of it with your meal, then buy a bottle to take home with you, safe in the knowledge that what you have bought is exactly what you're expecting.
The food is also delightful, there are things to graze, but also meat dishes and even courses if you want to go for the full restaurant experience. Should you not feel like wine (a bit strange when going to a wine shop, but still) there are also a selection of bottled beers you can delve into, with a few of them being sourced locally - Hackney being quite a good place for microbreweries if you didn't know...
Come along and enjoy, remember appearances can be really deceptive...
