LEGACY: An Elmhurst Ballet Company Performance

Dancers from Elmhurst Ballet Company will help the school celebrate its centenary this year with a special evening of performance called Legacy . Taking place at Elmhurst Studio Theatre on 19-20 May, the evening performances include classical ballet and contemporary dance.

Aiming to prepare students for a career in dance, Elmhurst Ballet Company features 14 graduate students of the prestigious school which this year celebrates 100 years since its foundation.

Legacy features The End is Where We Start, a new piece in which the students have worked collaboratively with Jordan James Bridge, a Company Wayne McGregor artist, to create a work which is a gentle nod to the door closing on the students’ time at Elmhurst and another door opening in their careers. The work marks the fifth project between Elmhurst and Studio Wayne McGregor in a relationship that enables students to explore multi award-winning Wayne’s cutting-edge choreography and creative process.



The programme also includes an excerpt from Frederick Ashton’s Birthday Offering which was created in 1956 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sadler’s Wells Ballet. Another dance milestone is commemorated in Bronislava by Avatâra Ayuso, choreographer and artistic director of Ava Dance Company. Bronislava honours Les Noces (The Wedding), the most famous work by Bronislava Nijinska which was premiered in Paris in 1923.

Members of the graduate company will be showcased in Argonauts, an excerpt from David Bintley’s jazz-based The Orpheus Suite with music by Colin Towns. The theme continues in a new jazz dance Doin’ That Doo-Wah Thing! by choreographer Cris Penfold. And the company will be showcasing its versatility by performing Argentinian-inspired Malambo by Elmhurst teacher Sonia Fajardo and Resonate by Jack Farren, an Elmhurst Ballet Company artist.
