For my mother's birthday my aunty and I decided a pamper day would be nice for the three of us for a girls' day out.

There are so many pamper day options these days but frankly some are quite disappointing. Getting thrown into a small room for a quick massage and tossed out again for their next customer wasn't our idea of a relaxation day. We wanted to make a day of it and treatments being so expensive now anyway we thought we may as well make the most of it.

My aunt lives in Tamworth just outside of Birmingham and had heard good things about a local 4 star hotel that offered spa days and breaks. This initially looked perfect but very pricey as you'd expect a 4 star hotel to be, however their deals were great and realistic for what you got. The prices were quite reasonable, especially split between a group.

We started our day changing into our swimwear and putting on the slippers and robes that were provided. We headed in to the relaxation room, which was a room with soft lighting and relaxing music. There were closed curtains closed and comfortable chairs with foot rests and blankets. With endless supplies of the latest girly magazines, cold water, all types of tea and coffee, plus miniature muffins, brownies and cookies, I did indeed feel like a celebrity. As we were the only ones in the room we were free to talk and laugh amongst ourselves even though it was hard not to fall asleep.

The lovely receptionist called to give us our itineraries for the day, so after an hour of chilling out we had our first treatment. We chose the rasul spa. This consisted of us stripping down to our swimsuits and getting into what looked like a small temple. We showered and then caked ourselves with mud. We then sat in this temple room until the mud was set, surrounded by steamed and with lights above us that looked like twinkly stars The twinkly stars turned red and it started to rain, washing the mud off. We then had a pot of salt to exfoliate in the showers and rid ourselves of any excess mud. My skin has never felt better.

On returning to the relaxation room we decided to dry off as much as we could before lunch. (The package we chose included lunch.) We had already decided on food and let the receptionist know our choices prior to entering the restaurant so lunch was served as soon as we sat down. We ordered a bottle of wine (because you just have to) and enjoyed feeling that star treatment, although it was a little weird walking into a posh restaurant in robes and slippers.

After full bellies we decided to sit in the jacuzzi to let our food go down. We were then in turn called into our second and final treatment. My mother and aunty opted for the Swedish massage, while I had a facial and mini head massage which I didn't want to end.

At this point it was 3.30pm and we had been there since 9am. We then had as long as we wanted (until it closed) to make use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, and the relaxation room that we loved.

Over all I thought it was fantastic day with fantastic service. It would be perfect for hen dos, or just a pamper day. They offer deals including a night's stay at the hotel, which are reasonably priced if you wanted it to last a bit longer.

The only downfall was coming home and realising I wasn't a celebrity.
