Tasty generous portions and excellent value for money equal Lahore Spices! This comfortable family restaurant opened on Sutton High Street a few years ago and has steadily been occupying our list of family favourites.

Sometimes we have a celebratory occasion, sometimes we don't and still other times, we find a reason, like the time we went to celebrate our nephew's birthday as a family. Sounds fine, except that our nephew was not even in this country! Having wished him over Skype 7000 miles away and seeing him enjoy his birthday meal, we did likewise here (yes, I know we just 'find reasons').

Essentially North Indian/Pakistani cuisine, the menu comprises classics like lamb rogan josh, biriyanis and an array of naan breads for the mains. The taste has been consistently good- the spice factor seems to be well managed in keeping with the local palate. One of their rather unique desserts is 'fried ice cream'. Yes, you read right! Fried cornflakes covered balls of ice cream do offer an interesting treat.

They do home deliveries and party catering as well. The staff are pleasant, attentive and very friendly (or perhaps that's because they know us so well by now!).

To give you an idea of our loyalty, nothing sums it up better than this conversation had between our 11-year old and one of their waiters.

Waiter: So, how are you today?

My daughter (seriously considering the question): Actually not much has changed since we were here last (which was last week!).
