La Porte Des Indes

, it sounds fancy doesn't it? It is, this is Mayfair's wonderfully enthralling Indian restaurant.
They have branches in Dubai and Brussels, but I visited their UK restaurant with a few friends, who were in much need of a cocktail and catch up.
Imagine the splendour of The Ritz combined with Mahiki kitsch and add an Indian twist – you're getting an idea of La Porte des Indes. Conventional on the outside, it transforms, Narnia-like, into a grand venue with a waterfall, marble staircase and ceiling-high palm tree.
My friends and I were absolutely taken with the decor, and it takes an effort not to just sit and stare because of the intricate detail and somewhat outlandish features which draw the eye.
I don't drink, so instead of the fruity cocktails I sipped a coconut water, from the shell and the Mango Cappuccino - Alphonso mango, natural yoghurt (£7.00) in the Jungle Bar. My friends opted for coconut drinks too (Pomerita - coconut juice, rum, pana liqueur, curacao, pomegranate, lemon, and Karma - coconut juice, vodka, passion fruit, green lime, sweet basil), which were priced at £12.00 each.
They add a discretionary 12.5% to the bill, so maybe visit on payday. Fee added, this venue is breathtaking, and worth it's weight, for the atmosphere was calm yet buzzing, but ever so cool and very 'Mayfair'.
