EastEnders Hunk John Partridge As Never Seen Before
With iconic songs like The Best of Times and I Am What I Am, it is no wonder that La Cage aux Folles has become a timeless classic.
John Partridge appears as you've never seen him before
Added to that is former EastEnders' hunk John Partridge as you've never seen him before - glamourously dazzling as a drag queen in full make-up and sparkling outfits to die for.
A new production of the show embarks on a UK tour in 2017 and stops off to venues in the Midlands including Birmingham Hippodrome and Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, plus cities like Liverpool, Brighton and Glasgow.
Colourful scenes in La Cage aux Folles
This version of the musical promises to be dripping in decadence and has extravagant Rococo-inspired set designs by Gary McCann to recreate the Cage nightclub along with the lavish interior of Albin and George's Parisian apartment.
Meanwhile, there's a constant flow of magnificent costume changes featuring glitter, feathers and sparkle.
La Cage aux Folles - based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret and written by Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein - has an array of prizes in its locker. The original Broadway production won six Tony nominations including Best Musical and Best Score.
Big song and dance numbers have made this a well-loved musical
It's a comedy that surrounds couple Georges and his love, the dazzling drag artiste Albin, who is star of la Cage aux Folles. The pair live happily in sunny St Tropez but when Georges' son Jean-Michel announces his engagement to the daughter of a notorious right-wing politician determined to close down the local colourful night-life, things go awry.
There's plenty of laughs as the parents meet but also emotional scenes questioning whether Albin should be forced to live a lie so that Jean-Michel can marry the love of his life.
This production stars John Partridge and Adrian Zmed, who are being directed by Martin Connor. Joining them will be Dougie Carter as Jean-Michel, Samson Ajewole as Jacob, Su Douglas as Marie/Madame Renaud, and Paul F Monaghan as Renaud.
La Cage aux Folles is a comedy with heart
Choreographer Bill Deamer has also had his work cut out creating dance scenes for throughout the show and for the Les Cagelles dancers, played by Jordan Livesey, Matthew Ives, Louie-George Daniels, Liam Paul Jennings, Micah Holmes and Richard Leavey.
