Norwegian Metal Merchants Back in Britain
Heavy Metal band Kvelertak are back in the UK for a short tour that plays Wolverhampton Slade Rooms on April 23.

The Norwegian noise merchants are riding high on the back of last year's critically acclaimed album, Meir.

Back in the UK: Norwegian Heavy Metallers Kvelertak

From the explosively heavy first single, Bruane Brenn, and the slowed down guitar crunching powerhouse of Evig Vandrar to the brutally chaotic Nekrokosmos and delightfully infectious Trepan, Meir, which means 'More', is an album that lives up to the hype and draws parallels to the anarchistic energy of The Sex Pistols and Guns N' Roses.

"It is both catchy and heavy; we're pushing our limits in both ends of that spectre. It's very varied and there are a lot of surprises in store. I mean, it's unlike anything I myself have heard before, so we even managed to surprise ourselves," says vocalist Erlend Hjelvik.

''I think we stretched the limits of what we could do within our realm, but not so much that it doesn't sound unmistakably like Kvelertak,'' adds guitarist Bjarte Lund Rolland.

Explosive: Kvelertak

With the line-up completed by Vidar Landa, Maciek Ofstad, Kjetil Gjermundrød and Marvin Nygaard, Kvelertak signed to Roadrunner Records in January 2013.

Dave Rath, Roadrunner's Senior Vice President of A&R, comments: ''These guys remind us that rock music should truly affect us. Roadrunner is proud to deliver Kvelertak to a world waiting for a musical awakening. If this band doesn't get your heart racing, then you don't have one."

In Europe the band has racked up numerous accolades. Kvelertak was dubbed "the best Norwegian debut of all time" by Norwegian rock authority Asbjørn Slettemark, awarded Best Debut Album by Metal Hammer Germany and named Best New Artist and Best Rock Album at the Spellemannprisen (Norway's Grammy equivalent).

They were a huge success at 2011's SXSW festival and were invited by Mastodon to support them in Bergen. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters presented them with their first gold discs at a sold-out show at Telenor Arena, Norway's largest indoor venue.

Kvelertak's remaining UK tour dates:

April 18: The Cockpit 2, Leeds;
April 21: Academy 3, Manchester;
April 22: The Cathouse, Glasgow;
April 23: Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton;
April 26: Desertfest, London.
