Custom House Square, Belfast. The ideal outdoor venue for the ideal outdoor music concert. Not too small as to miss out on the buzzing atmosphere of mammoth music festivals, but not too big as to lose all sense of where you are in the world.
Custom House Square Presents involves a series of one-night music events in the city centre of Belfast, Northern Ireland, with this year representing the ninth since its establishment. By day, the area boasts Belfast's city centre's finest apartment development and the iconic Custom House, yet transforms itself into a close-knit and bustling venue throughout these summer evenings, with the likes of George Ezra and Kasabian headlining the stage in recent weeks, among several other superstars from the music industry.
Thursday 24th August 2018 saw the much-loved Kodaline take to the stage, and the group of Irish friends did not disappoint the thousands of roaring fans who turned up in the Belfast wind and rain to cheer on their beloved band.
Born and raised in Dublin, the four members of Kodaline summoned up an electric atmosphere worthy of any music festival, with onlookers swept away at the sound of lead singer Steve Garrigan's iconic, with the frontman thoroughly enjoying his 30th birthday celebrations. The band's world-renowned 'Love Like This' opened proceedings and set the tone of the night from then on in, with their light rock genre subtly mixed with their folk-like 'Head Held High', an upbeat single from their upcoming album 'Politics of Living', due to be released in a matter of weeks.
Heavy rain soon dried up as the band hit the stage
Not only were other new singles from their soon-to-be-released album – their third since the band's formation in 2012 – included in the varied setlist, such as 'Follow Your Fire' and 'Shed a Tear', but countless other classics and fan favourites were mixed in to generate a stunning evening for the heavy Irish following north of the border.
The highly revered 'Brand New Day' sent vibrations through the rocking crowd, while arguably their two most adored singles 'High Hopes' and 'Love Like This' were reverberated back onto the stage with passion and emotion, with the latter song acting as the closing song in what was a hugely successful and enjoyable night for all involved in the picturesque setting in Northern Ireland's capital city.
The rock band played countless fan favourites throughout the night
Kodaline's upcoming tour takes them all across Europe in October and early November, as the band then head to the United States and Canada before the turn of the year. The upcoming album 'Politics of Living' will be released on 28th September, with their previous albums 'In a Perfect World' and 'Coming Up for Air' shooting to success in 2012 and 2015 respectively.
