If you look up you'll be amazed
Located just north of the town of Tiverton, you will find this unique country house.
Designed by William Burges, it is currently the only one of his house designs that is open to the public. This one is set in the grounds of a large country estate of over 200 acres and was commissioned by the Heathcoat-Amory family in 1867, having recently acquired the estate.
Upon our visit here, we soon realised that it would be easy to spend the whole day looking around and relaxing while taking in the many attractions of the estate.
The house contains one of a kind feature ceilings unlike any we've seen before and many other architectural designs that are unique to this designer. Within the garden area, there is an extensive area to walk around and you can bring your own picnic along to enjoy under one of the many shady trees.
A walk in the woodland and formal garden lets you see one of the most varied plant collections in the UK and has over 1200 plant species that are unique to the estate.
Traditional growing techniques are displayed in the Kitchen Garden with this also providing some of the ingredients used in the cafe and along the Douglas Fir walk are some rare Patagonian Cypress with a variety of other tree specimens.
