American rock band
Kings of Leon are to celebrate their 25th anniversary with a brand new UK tour. Following the announcement of an impending new album, Kings of Leon are to play a series of dates in Britain over June and July this year, including a visit to Birmingham's
Utilita Arena on Saturday 22 June. The family band, which was formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 1999, is composed of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew.
The tour will follow hot on the heels of Kings of Leon's new album entitled
Can We Please Have Fun, produced by Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Florence + the Machine) and released on 10 May via Polydor Records. The album, which includes new single
Mustang, is described as a 'document' of one of this era’s great rock & roll bands cutting loose, trying new things, and having some fun.
Kings of Leon
Kings of Leon, who will be joined on tour by special guests, The Vaccines, formed in 1999, taking their name from their grandfather Leon. Since their debut release in 2003, the band has recorded eight albums and sold more than 20 million albums and nearly 40 million singles worldwide. They have also won multiple Grammy, NME and BRIT Awards over the course of their glittering career and performed at stadiums and arenas all over the world.
King of Leon lead singer Caleb says: "
When you have a band, there’s a bond like no other, and when you have family, you have a bond like no other. We have both of those things. I thought, if we put all our energy toward something, who is gonna stop us? Who can stop us except us?” Of the new album, he adds: “
It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of. It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable."
