There are not many amongst us who can resist a good curry, well I know that i certainly can't ! I have been going to
Khan's Indian restaurant in Westbourne Grove for as long as I can remember and have never been disappointed.
The atmosphere is always buzzing, the food is great and what makes it a star in my books is that its good value for money. It is always packed and if you don't want to wait for a table, phone in advance to book. You can book threw their website, but will have to wait for a call back from one of their waiters to confirm the booking.
My favourites are Pilau rice with Chicken Korma, and Nan Mughziat. I love the coconut taste of the Mughziat Nan bread, it is the best in London and goes well with the Chicken Korma. Other favourites are the Prawn Biryani. If I am feeling brave I'll have their famous Vindaloo accompanied by gallons of water. They are also well known for their Tandoori Chicken which is a favourite of many regulars there. Of course no Indian is complete without some poppadoms to start with. Their poppadoms and dips, such as mango chutney and lime pickle are always fresh. The high turnover of people eating there assures this.
The last time I ate there, I was with a friend who is a vegetarian. She was pleasantly surprised by the range of dishes and ordered a vegetable curry at £3.95. It was so good and so cheap, that she ordered another one! Well you can't get better value for money than that. Khans also has an eat as much as you like buffet available on weekdays from 12pm to 3pm for £9.50.
Before those of you reading this, don't get too excited as there is one slight disadvantage to Khans, it does not serve alcohol! So, if you are hoping to get your belly full of beer whilst eating your vindaloo this may not be the place for you. A friend of mine, who I often go with, normally smuggles something in and adds it to his drink. However there are so money pubs in the area that you can easily go for a drink before or after your meal.
If you have kids with you, they also do a reasonably priced childrens' menu. If you are driving there, there is complementary free parking in the NCP Colonnades car park in Porchester Terrace North (look on their website for further information). To get there by tube, get off at Bayswater tube station, turn left out of the station and Westbourne Grove is a short walk away.
Of course, there are hundreds of Indian restaurants in London. However Khans has been around for over thirty years and in terms of atmosphere and value for money, I think that Khans is one of the best.
