Kate Nash wants to share some Girl Talk on her British tour which includes a show at Birmingham Institute on October 11. The 26-year-old Londoner is keen to showcase her self-released third album, Girl Talk, before she heads to America to work on a new theatre production.

Kate, who first came to our attention in 2007 with the hit single Foundations and number one album Made of Bricks, is co-writing a Broadway musical based on her Girl Talk album. Entitled Only Gold, the show will include tracks from across her career to tell the story of a Maharaja in 1920s Paris.

The latest release from the album is the EP Fri-end, a barbed message to a former pal.

"This was the first song I wrote for the record and it's about rubbish friends, when someone cares more about material things than they do about you,'' Kate says.

As well as working on her own music, writing for other artists like Willow Smith and penning theatre shows Kate has moved into film, starring in new movie Powder Room alongside Jaime Winstone, Sheridan Smith and Oona Chaplin. She's also involved in current affairs, speaking up when she feels it's necessary.

A proud vegetarian, feminist, activist and ambassador for various global initiatives close to her heart, she has recently offered her support to the female Russian punk band Pussy Riot and started her Protect A Girl initiative to help raise awareness and funds for under-privileged girls in Africa.

Closer to home she helps young girls in the UK and US with her Rock and Roll After School Programme. Founded by Kate in 2012, the programme successfully continues to empower girls between the age of eight and 15 with music education and performing arts.

"It's been an incredible year," she admits. "I wrote the record about a rough time in my life and it poured out of me. We self-released the album, which gave me such freedom to express myself and I'm so proud of the result. That same freedom has opened so many more doors, with acting, writing for Broadway, living and recording in LA for a while. It's great to get back here to show everyone where I'm at now.''
