Former 'King Of The Jungle' Is Also The Lord Of Comedy
At a time when there are seemingly so many serious, almost heavy duty comedians around, how refreshing it is to see a stand-up comic who appears intent on just having fun. So it is with Joe Pasquale who, despite his constant successes, seems happiest when he is touring in a live comedy show on stage.
Joe, famous for a past 'King of the Jungle' title in I'm A Celebrity, as well as a recent appearance on Dancing on Ice, is back with a new UK tour bizarrely called One Man And His Bog, which is probably why he first appears on stage riding a motorised toilet bowl. And that, essentially, is how high-brow his show became over the course of two hours of mad-cap stand-up at the Lichfield Garrick theatre.
He readily admitted to a childish sense of humour, not that he really needed to confess something which seemed so obvious to the packed audience. But he also claims that he doesn't know what he's doing "most of the time", but there I would tend to disagree with him. Because as chaotic as things appear to be happening on stage, you get the feeling that Joe is in control.
He incorporates a lot of audience participation in his live shows, with one humorous attempt at mind-reading involving the whole theatre. And there was a key role for two men in the audience who joined Joe on stage for a particularly impressive card trick, proving that he could easily cut it as a magician if he ever wanted to deprive the world of his comedy talents.
His more zany routines include some hilarious quick-fire impressions, such as Kim Kardashian doing a parachute jump. But one of his most outstanding routines was his unique illustration of Frank Sinatra singing Come Fly With Me using an array of quirky props.
