Celebrate 250 years of JMW Turner, the man who made landscapes look so good they ought to come with a warning: serious daydreaming may occur. His exhibition, "In Light and Shade", is a rare chance to feast your eyes on the Liber Studiorum in its full glory—something folks haven't been able to do for over a century. If you thought that landscape art was just a cosy scene with a sheep or two, prepare for a mind-blowing experience with Turner's dynamic engravings.
The exhibition pairs these stunning Liber prints with a selection of Turner's watercolours from the Whitworth's own treasure chest, plus a few borrowed gems from other collections. It's basically a family reunion of Turner's best creations, inviting visitors to dive headfirst into the artistry and significance of his prints. Just remember to bring your inner art critic, or at least pretend you know about brush strokes while you're there. Oh, and the Manchester Accommodation BID is helping out, so if you fancy a little jaunt after viewing, you're all set.
