To experience a little slice of Japan right in the heart of London, a trip to the
Japan Centre in Regent's Street is a must. Oozing all things Japanese the centre sells a staggering range of traditional foods, including spices, soups, vegetables, noodles and desserts. If its Japanese food that you're after this is the place to come- and if you're not after it, take a look anyway as you'll soon be inspired by what's on offer.
If you're not familiar with this type of cuisine it might be worth looking at the Japan Centre's excellent before paying them a visit. Each food item is listed on the website with a thorough description next to it, often detailing how you should cook the food, or at the very least what it actually is (turns out Irigoma Shiro are roasted white sesame seeds!).
Since moving from its original premises near Piccadilly Circus, the Japan Centre has grown bigger and better than ever before, boasting a deli (serving fresh, hand-made food which you can either eat on the premises or take home with you), a bookshop and a tea and sake shop. Not content with that the owners have also set their sights on
opening a Japanese restaurant right next door, which will be called Toku and is due to open in the next couple of months.
