Looking for a vintage keepsake from Wales, or a beautiful throw for your stylish new sofa, or maybe a present for someone special? You're bound to find something that suits at in Ceredigion. After all, if it's good enough for former US President Barack Obama ….
A colourful array of hundreds of new, old and collectable blankets adorns the shelves of Ty Zinc, the replica roadman's hut housing Jane Beck's. Fitted inside like an old mill shop, it boasts the largest collection of provenanced Welsh blankets in Wales, along with quilts, shawls, cushions, bags and gifts.
A warm welcome from the owner herself and the offer of a cup of tea provides an opportunity for you to browse and enjoy the view over the Aeron Valley. Given the chance, Jane will tell you about the time she was asked to supply US President Obama with a gift of a Welsh blanket when he visited Cardiff for the NATO summit in 2014. She is also a wealth of knowledge about each of the vintage blankets on sale and the history of blanket weaving in Wales.
New Welsh blankets range in price from about £129 to £269, while antique tapestry bedcovers can cost upwards from £350. The age of some of the old blankets are testament to their longevity, however, which is worth bearing in mind when you consider the price.
If your budget doesn't stretch to a blanket, beautiful cushions are available from about £40, hand-made tea cosies for £20 and even dog coats for about £40. Other gifts include book covers, teddy bears, door stops and bookmarks, among other ideas.
If you're travelling from some distance away, Jane Beck offers glamping in the nearby wildflower meadow. She has two vintage
shepherds huts each equipped with a double bed and wood-burning stove.
is about one and a half hour's drive north from Swansea. It is located five miles from Lampeter and seven miles from Tregaron.
