In the mood for some fresh fish? Then you'll find the aptly named 'Italian Club Fish' in the perfectly central location of Bold Street, Liverpool city centre.

Part of the Italian Club Group , this cosy venue accented with Italian décor, makes it the ideal setting for romantic dates, friendly catch ups or even the odd businesses lunch.

Our occasion happened to be a birthday treat.

Having never visited before, we'd heard good things and were excited to tuck in, with one seafood fanatic (and one self-professed fish novice) in tow.

On entering, the vibe is authentic and strikingly quaint, you can't miss the proud flag at the entrance, or the Italian celeb 'hall of fame' style display that mounts the walls once seated.

In comparison to the hipster mecca of Bold Street , (modern, Instagram-able haunts galore) I'd perhaps describe the interior of ICF as nothing to write home about.

And yet, on ordering, it quickly becomes clear why. The emphasis here is exactly where it should be - purely on the incredible food.

Glancing at the menu is as close as you can get to pescatarian's dream. There's everything from cod to crustaceans, and oysters to octopus…if you're a fish lover, then you know you've reached the right place.

Safe to say, our expectations were exceeded the second we took our first bite.

So, let's move on to the menu….

For starters:
Suppli Di Pesce (that's Homemade Italian fishcakes to me and you) served with a mixed salad, tartare sauce and a wedge of lemon. These were perfectly fresh and melted in the mouth. We were off to a great start.

Available on the menu were mussel pots and shellfish, and a wide range of hot and cold starters. Mains encompassed risottos, home-made pasta dishes, and exciting platters. There even featured a fairly generous sized 'non-fish dish' section for those who still want a taster of the Italian Club experience. (Helpfully, the comprehensive menu also states that all their pasta is gluten-free).

For mains, we were spoilt for choice, eventually settling on the 'catch of the day' menu:

Fresh Seabass – lightly grilled and served with a side of amazingly creamy buttered garlic spinach and a side of homemade fries. This was succulent simplicity that couldn't be faulted!

Swordfish - served with buttered garlic new potatoes and a side salad. Moist yet meaty, and cooked to perfection - this really hit the spot.

ICF offers a great wine selection to perfectly accent your meal choices – we opted for a classic bottle of Pinot, ideal for pairing with white fish.

The best part of eating at a fish restaurant? The food is delicious yet light enough that you can fit in a dessert!

We opted for the Cheesecake Al Pistachio – its luxurious texture serving as the perfect finishing touch to a great culinary experience.

So whether you're craving Mediterranean seafood specialities, or simply some deliciously humble fish and chips – you'd be hard pushed to find better quality in the city.

Looking for the best place for seafood in the whole of Liverpool? I think you may have found it.
