It's twelve o'clock on a sunny summer's day, and I enter
Rock Terrace Recreation Ground with yoga mat in hand. I am not usually one for displaying my yogi poses in public, but today is a special occasion. My yoga teacher asked me if I would help promote her
class at
South Mitcham Community Centre by giving a performance at the International Summer Fair. As the fair had only just opened, the crowd is still small, which makes me partially disappointed and partially relieved. But as the day goes on, the crowd gets larger and both kids and adults enjoy all the activities the fair has to offer.
This was last year, and the success of the community centres first International Summer Fair has led to it becoming an annual event, because it is coming once again to Rock Terrace Recreation Ground on the 25th July between 12pm - 4pm.
There will be lots of fun things to do and see. Children can play on inflatable slides, bouncy castles, get their face painted, fish for ducks, and even become a sumo wrestler.
There will also be drop-in art and craft workshops. Last year people were making spoon characters, masks, and fabric maps of the world.
Take your chance in a raffle or buy puzzles, games, and bric-a-brac from the stalls.
For all the animal lovers out there, Deen City Farm will be holding a
petting corner with small animals including rabbits and snakes (thankfully not in the same pen).
All this can be enjoyed to live music, or better yet, why not take a chance to learn some African drumming.
