The world famous Clipper Round the World Yacht Race begins in August this year, with Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, once again acquiring the status as one of several Host Ports. The iconic city will feature in the final homecoming leg of the 2017-18 edition in July 2018.

The decision that the race will visit the Northern Irish city for the fourth consecutive time in July 2018 was confirmed earlier in the year by Derry City and Strabane District Council, and so thousands of people will line the picturesque quayside as a huge programme of events takes over the area for one busy week in July.

Locally known as the Foyle Maritime Festival, the Yacht Race is a globally renowned event that commences in Liverpool next month. The city welcomes both the locals and tourists who rush to the quayside in their numbers to catch a glimpse of the yachts and the numerous activities that take place throughout the hectic week.

The International Market opens, along with the Big Wheel and countless other amusements, such as the Let's Get Curious family arts and crafts Kids Zone, the Pirate Playground, while food vendors and musicians from every corner of the globe will be stationed across the area.

Tastes of the world can be enjoyed along the line of appetising food vendors on the river Foyle, including delicious French pastries, tasty Spanish calamari and gorgeous German Frankfurter sausages, while the famous pubs in the streets of the city play host to a night filled with traditional drinks and music.

The 2013 UK City of Culture will once again play host to countless entertaining and informative events, and so there is much excitement as the historic area of Northern Ireland gears up for another successful festival. With huge economic benefits, Derry/Londonderry expects to raise the profile of their host status yet again, and will undoubtedly be working tirelessly behind the scenes to provide another truly wonderful exhibition.

Exact dates for the event cannot be confirmed until nearer the event as the logistics for the race are still being calculated, yet this magnificent city will unquestionably maintain its significant status in line with other host destinations such as Sydney, London and New York.
