More than two years ago, Alex Gooch and Ray Kotecha decided to open Indulge dessert lounge in Pinner. They wanted to offer locals the opportunity to have something sweet after a meal in one of the local restaurants, and they appear to have tapped into a niche market. Indulge seems to be heaving whenever I pass, whatever the time of day, so they must be doing something right.

You can indulge yourself with a huge variety of cakes and pies, freshly made waffles, pancakes and crêpes, ice creams, hot drinks and milkshakes. To satisfy those who may not have such a sweet tooth they also offer savoury crêpes.

When you walk through the door you're confronted with a display of cakes, pies and cheesecakes, whilst further along the counter you can take your pick from 14 different flavours of ice cream, which can be garnished with whatever you fancy. If you think a frozen dessert is a little too cold for this time of year, you can treat yourself to something a little hotter off the waffle iron or crêpe or pancake maker behind the counter. These can be topped with a huge choice of fruit, sweets, nuts and cream. And if you've just about given up counting calories you can top it all with hot white, milk or dark Belgian chocolate from one of the customised chocolate fountains behind the counter. These three melting temptations are also used for hot drinks, including my hot chocolate made with the darkest of the three.

The staff are all sent away on barista training courses and aren't let loose on the cappuccinos and lattes until they've earned the relevant certificates, after which they return for further instruction to learn how to create pretty patterns in the coffee. If you have a problem with lactose you can take your milky drinks with soya, likewise there are sorbets on offer if you can't tolerate ice cream made with milk. The waffles and some of the cheesecakes are eggless; just ask the staff and they will advise you.

Unfortunately they don't serve gluten free desserts yet, but Alex is keeping his options open. If he comes across something that he considers tastes as good as the non-gluten cakes, he could well add them to the menu. The above are all served with a healthy dose of free WiFi too.

To get you in the mood, here are some of the other indulgences on offer.
