Classical music and opera for the masses
The ultimate classical/ pop crossover show is heading for Birmingham's LG Arena on Saturday April 13.
Welsh mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins has teamed up with opera quartet Il Divo and a full orchestra for a co-headline European tour which began in Poland on March 15. In the UK, the tour visits 11 arenas, starting in Nottingham on April 4 and ending at London's O2 Arena on April 19. It is the first time the two acts have performed on stage together.
Il Divo's French singer, Sebastien Izambard says: ''We've long been friends with Katherine and as we looked to stage a tour around our Greatest Hits release, we thought what better way to approach it than to offer our fans the ultimate evening of classical crossover music by inviting Katherine to perform and also join us on some brand new duets.''
Katherine joins Il Divo, whose line-up is completed by Spanish baritone Carlos Marin, American tenor David Miller and Swiss tenor Urs Buhler, on Nella Fantasia, Somewhere and Music Of The Night.
After the first night performance Katherine admitted all the hard work putting the show together was worthwhile. ''After nearly a decade of knowing each other, months of discussion and days of rehearsals, it felt amazing to finally be sharing the stage with Il Divo. The tour is off to a great start and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone."
