Il Bordello's has made quite a name for itself in the area of Wapping. Packed to the rafters on a Friday and Saturday night, I decided to head over during the week to guarantee myself a table and to see what all the fuss was about.

An extensive, hearty, Italian menu welcomes you, along with some charismatic waitstaff who are attentive to your needs. Scanning the menu you will of course see crowd favourites such as carbonara, bolognese, gnocchi and ravioli, just to name a few.

As my visit was quite impromptu I didn't have too many expectations, but had been told that I would be impressed. I have been to a fair few Italian restaurants in my time and I must say that Il Bordello rectifies my faith in the quality of food London has gained from its European neighbours.

Hot off the grill came the appetiser of garlic & lemon prawns. These were tantalising and surprisingly huge prawns from what I have seen in London thus far, I could have easily been transported back to Australia with prawns this size.

Mains were very hearty in size (definitely worth that extra pound) with a rich, aromatic mincemeat filling, the ravioli proved to be impossible to defeat, as did the large Italian meatballs & pasta that my friend ordered. A word of recommendation: share a main.

The staff at the restaurant are very knowledgeable with wines too so they will gladly match a wine to your main dish.

If you can stomach a dessert (unfortunately I was unable to) the Italian gelatis are a hit with patrons and children as is the panna cotta. Do yourself a favour and head to Wapping and experience this Italian goldmine for yourself.
