There's something beautiful when big organisations, or even little independents, remember where they started, and recognise who helped them get there. Ikon's Icons exhibition is a celebration of the artists who have made the gallery what it is today.
John Salt: Cadillac, 1967
Ikon Icons is a series of exhibitions at the Brindleyplace gallery, featuring five key British artists spanning work from five decades. First up is John Salt, the first artist ever to exhibit at Ikon.
Salt's art is stuff of photorealism, and is extensively detailled work, which makes you question whether it was created by hand or camera. Typically working with a photo, photorealists like Salt reproduce an image to a much larger scale in oil and acrylic.
