The Curry Mile is known for being the place in Manchester for the best Indian, Pakistani, and other Middle Eastern cuisine. Many however, forget about the delights of Wilmslow Road. Giving The Curry Mile a run for it's money, Wilmslow Road is another popular destination is home to a number of other Asian foods, such as Chinese, Thai, Japanese and Korean dishes. To find a yummy alternative to a traditional curry head to Ichiban Wilmslow Road's answer to Oriental cuisine.
The layout is pretty cool: there's no island in the middle like you'd expect, instead there are simply benches either side of the in house kitchen (yep, you see your food being cooked in front of you), and you order from the high counter. It is decorated with traditional East Asian style lamps.
Considering Ichiban is in a busy student the restaurant is surprisingly relaxed with a calm atmosphere. Happily chill over glass noodles with your mates and modern Oriental seasoning.
Speaking of the food think delicious East-Asian flavours with rich accents such as the duck salad with shredded cabbage, carrots and plum sauce. We tucked into a delicious Oriental array of dishes, including the following:
Leodan chilli chicken with onions and green peppers Malaysian char-grilled satay chicken Seafood platter Thai bai dai fish cakes (minced cod meat, mild curry and lime leaves)
The dishes were tasty, well flavoured, and filling. Although the food is delicious it's kinda expensive, but it's better than Nando's. From about £7 up, it's not that student friendly, but wont break the bank.
