Winter is the season of light, though it seems the opposite after the clocks go back. But, with the arrival of October and chilly evenings, fairy-lights get switched on in houses, Bonfire Night displays of fireworks illuminate skies nationwide, and right at this very moment, the big switch-on of Christmas lights across London is happening.
For the first time ever,
Hyper Japan , the UK's biggest celebration of Japanese culture and cuisine, is bringing the festival of light 'ILLUMINIGHT', to East London.
From 24th - 26th November, ILLUMINIGHT will see traditional Japanese 'akari' lantern crafts being given a modern makeover by upcoming artists.
This shining spectacular will showcase piece of Japanese craft art that have a history in Japanese 'matsuri' festivals. Hyper Japan will blend these ancient traditions with the latest in light and visual technology to create a truly mesmerising display.
ILLUMINIGHT marks the first time that installations of this scale, featuring up-and-coming Japanese artists, will have been brought to the UK.
Visitors to Hyper Japan will also be able to see the Ukiyo-e Gallery, commonly known as 'pictures of the floating world'. These are a well-known part of Japanese culture, and digital technology will bring the prints to life at ILLUMINIGHT, showcasing them as they would have looked 200 years ago.
Hyper Japan returns for a 7th year in 2017, continuing to bring a taste of Japanese tradition as well as the latest trends to London.
Tickets for Friday and Saturday (before 2.30pm) cost £15 per person. Tickets for Sunday and Saturday afternoon (after 2.30pm) are priced at £17 per person.
