Food and Drink - Rum from Shakespeare's homeland

What better way to sit back with a book than with a toddy from the home of England's most celebrated literary hero.

Shakespeare Distillery, based in William Shakespeare's home town of Stratford-upon-Avon, has launched its first British White Rum to accompany its range of gins.

Continuing with names inspired by the Tudor period, this latest rum offering is named Jester and a nod to a famous statue that stands near The Bard's birthplace.

It's also apt as almost all of Shakespeare's jesters were fond drinkers, and known to be bold, memorable, and popular characters - the ideal traits for this new British-made spirit.

As an independent artisan spirit producer, Shakespeare Distillery has successfully been distilling gin for the last five years but is branching out into rum with this inviting, distinctive double distilled rum made in small handcrafted batches. It is mildly sweet with a hint of citrus that makes for a refreshing drink.

Jester Rum by Shakespeare Distillery costs from £17.50 to £34 for full-size bottles at the Distillery website here .
