I previously wrote about the Horse and Jockey pub , as one of the remaining old style pubs in the area. Well it's been closed, for about six weeks for a refurbishment. It re-opened on July 26th, and it looks lovely, including the outside.

It's like a new, but old pub; they have a brand new menu including a buffet menu for parties, meetings, etc. The function room upstairs looks fab too. The food is very reasonably priced, they even do morning snacks such as toast and jam scrambled eggs and more from £1.50. Bargain prices indeed.

When we attended the opening I tried the cheese bake, which was cooked to perfection. My husband had the ham and eggs, which comes with hand cut chips. He cleaned his plate which I can only take as a good sign. Once we had enjoyed our mains we moved onto my favourite bit: the desert. I had jam roly poly and custard it was delicious. All desserts are £2.75 and I doubt you can find deserts much cheaper. Even though the pub has had a makeover, the prices have still stayed rock bottom, and boast value-for money offers.

The decor is perfect, the pub still retains old fashioned charm but looks fresh and new, it's definitely worth a visit.
