Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain can be seen at
The Alexandra , Birmingham, from December 1 to December 4, 2021.
The hilarious and eye-popping show will pose questions like: can you beat battling Boudicca? What if a Viking moved in next door? Would you lose your heart or head to horrible Henry VIII? Can evil Elizabeth entertain England? Will Parliament survive gunpowder Guy? Dare you stand and deliver to dastardly Dick Turpin? The cast will attempt to answer these queries with the help of amazing 3D Bogglevision effects. Among an array of three dimensional illusions, skulls hover, dams burst and missiles fly into the audience.
The Horrible Histories Live on Stage series is written by
Neal Foster and
Terry Deary , the author of the bestselling Horrible Histories books. Since 1983, Terry's 50 Horrible Histories titles have sold over 25 million copies worldwide.
The show is directed by Neal Foster, who launched the
Birmingham Stage Company in 1992. Since its foundation the BSC has staged over 80 productions. It has produced Horrible Histories Live on Stage for 15 years, with the shows regularly touring the UK, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.
Neal has co-written and directed all of the most recent Horrible Histories shows, including the Barmy Britain series. The company has also produced three stage adaptions of books by
David Walliams , including the Olivier Award-nominated West End hit Gangsta Granny and the world premiere of Tom Gates.
Neal says that linking the Birmingham Stage Company with Horrible Histories proved to be a simple affair. "
One day we were all sitting in the office thinking what we should do next and my Education Director said 'What about Horrible Histories?'. I thought it was a great idea, so I looked up Terry Deary on the internet and gave him a call. He was delighted and that's all it took – just one phone call! The rest is Horrible History!"
