Watch jousting tournaments
history live, kelmarsh
Is that a knight in shinning armour I see before me? Yes, there he is, gallant, brave, and riding a mighty steed. He is is galloping full speed with his long lance, heading towards another nobleman in arms. It is a jousting match of chivalry, skill, and grandeur. The Middle Ages. What a time to be alive.

Wait. Are you sure this is the Middle Ages? Just then I thought I saw a Roman gladiator take to the arena. That bare chested brut looks like he could do a lot of damage, spear or no. Although he might have hard time fighting off those allied soldiers storming the beaches of Normandy. Normandy? How did we get to France?

Actually we are in Kelmarsh, a little village in Northamptonshire. No one has been messing with the timeline, but some grown-up kids are having a god time playing dress up. This is History Live!, the biggest action-packed historical event in Europe. On the 20th & 21st July over two thousand performers will gather at Kelmarsh Hall to bring two millennia of history to life through stunning combat displays, thrilling battle re-enactments and a host of interactive experiences.

For this year's event, not only will you take a trip to the Roman Empire, and the shores of France, but there will be a re-enactment of a battle that changed the future of England forever: The Battle of Hastings.

While not being a spectator to bloody battles, you'll have the chance to visit army encampment and enjoy expert talks. Tickets to the event are 22 for the day or 36 for the weekend; children are 15.50 or 25.50 respectively.
