At Home is the first major solo exhibition of Hetain Patel's work since 2007. Patel's work is usually striking portraits where he is painted, pensive, or both.
In a departure from his previous portraiture, the photos and videos feature a wider cast. Husbands and wives, boyfriends and partners, girls with their mothers; the work, mostly shot in the home, focuses on identity and relationships.
This new exhibition is concerned with the concept of the domestic, and the authentic self. Is everything a construct, or a natural extension of who you are? Although not the most difficult questions, the exhibition provokes a question or two, and is Patel's newest work, so it's worth mulling over.
Held at The MAC in East Birmingham, the exhibition is free to attend, and will be available to view until January 26th - plenty of time.
