Here Is The Yard at Grand Union is a solo exhibition of new material from artist Maia Conran. It includes three works that transform short video recordings into a large-scale panorama, a sculptural sound installation and a new video work.
If you've been to the Flatpack Festival before you'll know this exhibition won't be something you've seen before. I attended 2013's Flatpack Festival which was a cocophony of weird and wonderful art and talent. Collectively this event is a major part of the arts and media scene in Birmingham, and individually each artist is making waves in the industry by displaying their prowess as a talented individual.
Conran's artistic practice moves between old and new media, from film to computer animation and from video to sculpture or performance. She has a fascination with the stage and screen, and these thresholds can be seen as a motif throughout her work.
As part of First Friday Digbeth (2nd of May), Maia Conran will be dropping in for a performance, which you can watch for free.
