I'm not sure how you spent your Valentines Day, but mine was quite a treat. I partook in three of my favourite past times: eating, drinking and kissing. Though the third is not really of interest to anyone but myself, I thought I would share the former two, which took place at a much loved London venue: Hawksmoor.

Booked almost two months in advance for my partner, the night had finally come where I got to indulge in what had been tipped the best steak in London.

My partner and I headed down the dimly lit Langley street in London's Soho area and were confronted with large wooden doors, as if we were entering a castle, after entering the venue we were lead down a dramatic staircase and into the bar area to begin the festivities with some cocktails.

An extensive cocktail list was presented to us, categorized to allow for all day drinking. There were the Solid Straight cocktails that were best drunk at 6pm, whilst the Sparkler cocktails were enjoyed post meat intake with perhaps cheese and crackers. The one that seemed to float into my vision was the Grapefruit Picador, this sultry drink combined Tequila, Velvet Falernum, Lime Juice, Grapefruit Sherbet and proved to be a worthy candidate for my palate.

Not long after we finished we headed over to our table. The cocktail area, although dimly lit and with fewer seats, did prove an intimate setting to begin the valentines day evening. The main dining hall was more abuzz with many conversations flowing. You would be stumped to know if there was music playing or not amongst all that banter.

We, funnily enough, had a charming Australian waiter who assisted us with our wine selection to accompany our Chatudebriand. Sound fancy? This is a recipe from a particular thick cut of tenderloin, often one that the French carve very well.

Our steak selection (950 grams) served us well, as did our sides, Triple Cooked Chips - how chips can be super crunchy, yet fluffy on the inside and still maintain their golden colour, is beyond my thought process. Along with the potatoes from heaven, we orderd some Creamed Spinach, so flavoursome I could have devoured the entire lot.

Our Chatubriand was to die for, succulent, juicy, tender and oh so tasty, this was definitely one of my favourite steak experiences to date. My partner was blown away and declared it to be the best steak he had ever eaten. Teamed with a stilton sauce, poured at our discretion, it was safe to say we were in tastebud ecstasy.

We didn't seem to stop there, with my sweet-tooth analyzing the dessert menu. The Peanut Butter Shortbread won me over and on presentation was a mouthwatering delight.

Hawksmoor is quite an experience. It takes core staples: meat, cheese, potatoes and spinach and creates a perfectly palate pleasing combination, where every element has been thought through in great detail. The meat, spinach, a chip combined on my fork was a flavour like no other I had experienced, I can't even describe it to you. Do yourself a favor, just get on the phone and book yourself in ASAP. In simple traveller language Hawksmoor is the Buckingham Palace of steak. Everyone will want to go there and experience it.
