"Are we going to a party?" my daughter asked as we arrived at the flamed tiki torches and the lights strung over the courtyard warmed by bonfire bins. It appeared so.

Hawker House is well worth the trip out to Canada Water for a funky laid back dinner. Set in two warehouses, one full of bars and the other with vendors of street food from around the world. For £10 I had the best meal I ate in London in the course of a week. The Indian with a twist, Rola Wala offered Lamb, Chicken and Lentil mini naan sliders which were a sensational melange of spicy meat or channa dal with an abundance of fresh coriander and salad.

There are stalls with street food from Venezuela, the Caribbean, Taiwan and other exotic locales. The lovely guys at Fundi kindly whipped up a plain margherita pizza in their woodfired oven for my youngest, even though it wasn't on the menu.

Grab a table and kick back for a few hours. There are pool tables, dessert bars and plenty of specialty bars to suit everyone's tastebuds.

Entry is free before 7pm and then a cover charge of three pounds applies.

Hawker House is open Friday and Saturday nights from 5pm and is easily accessible from the Canada Water tube station.

My only regret was that we couldn't go back and try out the other vendors.

Who says dinner can't be fun?
